On April 16, Lt. Governor Kyle Evans Gay, alongside the Delaware Arts Alliance, hosted the Creative Economy Convening on “Legal Needs & Services for Artists”

Guest Speaker: Aaron Harburg, Delaware Attorney delivered a presentation on other state’s Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (VLA) programs. Attendees then participated in a Q&A to discuss:
- What types of legal services are needed among Delaware’s creative economy?
- What questions or feedback do you have about VLA programs and how/whether one might work in Delaware?
In response, Delaware artists flagged concerns around:
- Contract Support / Small Claims / On-time payments
- FMLA/Small business laws that apply to artists/arts businesses
- Federal grant compliance
- Registering an arts business as either non-profit, LLC, or other.
Attendees also heard community updates from the Delaware Arts Alliance, Delaware Division of the Arts, and Lt. Governor’s Office. Calls to Action/Next Steps are listed below.
